Why the UK is one of the safest places to study right now

We know that now, more than ever, students are looking for a safe, secure and authentic university experience.

The UK has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, and the 3rd highest in Europe, so you can rest assured that September 2021 will be a safe time for students and staff alike.

A traffic light system has been introduced for those coming to the UK and, ahead of the next student intake, UK universities are processing international UCAS applications as normal with traditional study and learning expected to return.

Here’s why the UK is one of the safest places to study right now:

UK Vaccination Rate

Global leaders

  • Over half of all adults in the UK (aged 18 or over) have been fully vaccinated and almost 80% have received their first dose.
  • International and EU students in the UK can easily book a COVID-19 vaccine via the National Booking Service after registrering at a local GP. This means that you may receive the vaccine quicker in the UK than in your home country and will be protected when returning home.

Quarantine

Cost and availability

  • You can check here for the latest information on the UK’s traffic light system for arrivals to the UK.
  • A number of UK universities have announced they will reimburse the 10-day hotel quarantine and testing fees for international students. Please speak directly to your university to confirm if they are taking part in this scheme.
  • Nido may be able to offer a limited number of self-contained studios rooms if you arrive early for your stay with us. Please get in touch if you need a safe place to quarantine before you move into your new Nido home.

Face-to-Face Learning

UK most likely to get back to 'normal' student life

  • Face-to-face teaching has now resumed in the UK. University campus’ are currently open as normal as the UK continues to move out of its final lockdown, and student residences have remained open throughout.
  • Teaching has partially moved online for some currently studying at a UK university. A form of hybrid learning is currently taking place, which combines face-to-face tuition on campus and digital lectures and seminars to allow social distancing guidelines to be followed where necessary.
