Every Friday we kick off the weekend by featuring one of our brilliant residents to bring you advice on preparing for university. This week we spoke to Ann-Marie who is in her 1st year of Biochemistry at Birkbeck University.
What was it about Birkbeck University that made you want to study there?
My best friend’s brother went to Birkbeck. He did a Masters there and is the one who recommended the university to me.
How did you feel when you were accepted into university?
I felt quite excited when I was accepted. I was really looking forward to it.
Do you have any advice on the accommodation search process?
My advice would be to visit the accommodation before booking. With Nido, I got quite lucky because the facilities are very good but you never know what other places can be like.
Did you find it hard to leave home?
Leaving home for me was hard in the beginning but when you’re happy with the choice you’ve made, you just go for it. I visit home several times a year so it’s not that bad.
If you could only take three things with you to university, what would you take?
My phone (of course), a notebook and food (incase I get hungry).
How are you finding London compared to home?
London compared to home is very dynamic and energetic. There are a lot of things to do whether its culture-wise etc. and to be honest, I just love the tube and the public transportation!
What would you recommend doing while in London?
Definitely visit all of the touristic areas in order to get a feel for what the city used to be like back in the day.
We’ll be featuring a student each week to give you insight into #studentlife and moving to university.
